Built in 1388 by King Louis 1 of Hungary, it was a bastion of defense against the Ottoman Empire incursions. While legends of Dracula persist here, there is little evidence that the real Vlad Tepes(Vlad the Impaler), was ever here. The spatial significance of this place is in that it is a cultural icon, and a national monument to Romania. The castle now boasts a restaurant, tours, and interesting events for visitors.
