Bran Castle:
Cultural hotspot. Perched atop it's hill this formidable castle was the alleged home of Dracula! Built in 1388 by King Louis 1 of Hungary, it was a bastion of defense against the Ottoman Empire incursions. While legends of Dracula persist here, there is little evidence that the real Vlad Tepes(Vlad the Impaler), was ever here. The spatial significance of this place is in that it is a cultural icon, and a national monument to Romania. The castle now boasts a restaurant, tours, and interesting events for visitors.
Brasov Historical Centre:
Picturesque historic centre of the city of Brasov has everything a tourist could want: Shopping, cafes, restaurants, museums, shops, and beautiful architecture! The spatial significance of this site, is that it's one the OLDEST sites for human civilization. There has been found evidence of human settlements, and habitation that date back to the Neolithic Era(aprx 9500 BCE)! It has since had significant historic events surround it for centuries. Bicaz Canyon or Bicaz Gorge:
Situated in the Hasmas Mountains is this spatially significant natural wonder. It was created by the river of the same name, and provides one of the most stunning 8km drives one could ask for! The sheer cliffs provide great climbing for the adventuring type and home to rare bird The Wallcreeper" Also at the gorge are hotels, cabins, and Red Lake or Lacul Rosu.
Timisoara Cathedral:
This gorgeous cathedral, built in 1941, was built by renowned architect Ion Traianescu. Influenced by Gothic, Moldavian, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Renaissance styles, it is a masterpiece! The tallest point reaches 262'ft. It's cultural significance can be seen in its beauty and is history. It is home to the Relics of Saint Joseph the New. He was born in 1568, was a renowned healer. His relics draw people from all over the world. In the basement is a museum for those who would like to learn more!
Salina Turda is a vast network salt mine, that dates back to 1075! This little known location can be seen as naturally AND culturally significant. While providing salt and products for almost 1000 years, it also now provides a majestic tourist spot.
The complex now houses an amusement park, bowling, an amphitheatre, boat rides, and more! This is a must see for anyone.
